RETIRED BUSINESSMAN DIES AT 99

J.E. McPherson, 99, of Shady Oaks Nursing Home, died at 5 a.m. Monday in Hendrick Memorial Hospitalafter a long illness.  Funeral is pending at Kiker-Warren Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 6, 1874 in Dallas, he married Myrtle Graves in 1896 in Venus.  She died in 1939.  He married Mrs. Annie Flynn in Dallas in 1941.  She died in 1979.

Mr. McPherson moved to Abilene in 1919 from Knox City and was in the real estate and insurance business.  He moved to Dallas in 1941 and lived there until March 1970, when he moved to Shady Oaks Lodge.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Harber and Thelma McPherson, both of 2033 Sylvan; two sons, A.B. of San Gabriel, Calif., and F.B. of Midland; a daughter-in- law, Mrs. P.G. McPherson of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. William Yates of San Antonio and Mrs. John Casstevens of Burleson; three grandchildren, including Dr. William (Bill) King of 2310 Crescent.  He was preceded in death by a son in 1962.

I arrived in American 19 Mar 1868 from Germany.  I lived in Loganville, Wisconsin until 1872, when I moved to Iowa.  But before moving, I married Dorathea Mary Koenig, 11 Jun 1868.
We had 11 children, they were:  Dorothy Elizabeth, Henry, Anna, Edith Margaret, John Henry William, Minnie, William John Earl, Mary Louise, Caroline, Albert Hellmuth, and Matilda J "Tillie" Hesebeck.

I became a Naturalization on  24 Feb 1879, Sibley, Iowa.

I passed away on 17 March 1918, Osceola County, Iowa.

My name is Josephine Pearl Blanco.

I was born 22 April 1922, Lansing, Michigan, to Joseph Raymond Blanco and Dora Lydia Rice. My parents were married on 24 May 1918, Albany, New York.

My father was from Cuba, and from 1925-1929, I lived in Panama Canal Zone and Cuba.  The family returned to the United States, on April 2, 1929.  For a time we lived in Michigan.  In 1932 we moved to California.  This is where I met Earl Henry Bremmer, son of Carl Jerry Bremmer and Lucy Methesmith Bremmer (Sharpe).  My parents did not like Earl.  Earl and I where married 14 Jun 1941, my parents where not at my wedding.  My parents, put up with Earl, during the birth of the grandkids.  Earl and I had 7 kids.

I passed away year after my oldest son Larry, died.  I passed away 25 Jun 2001 (11 days) after our 60th Wedding Annv.

Rebecca had a daughter Winnifred from a former marriage.  I adopted Winnifred, as my daughter.  In 1908, we had a house fire, and sweet Winnifred, died from that fire.

My wife Rebecca passed away in 1960 and I passed away on 17 Feb 1979, Seal Beach, California.
We wanted to be buried next to our sweet daughter Winnifred Stewart Bremmer, in Iowa.

I was born 25 Mar 1857, Jackson County, Iowa.  I am the daughter of James Green and Elizabeth Spurgeon.  I married Henry Bremmer, on 23 Nov 1878, Rock Rapids, Iowa.  To this union were born: James Henry, Carl Jerry, Earl LeRoy, and Elizabeth Bremmer.

It was a hard life, having to run a farm and take care of our children.  Henry was a lady man, things started going bad around around 1900, when Carl our son, had gotten a young lady knot up.  Her name was Lucy Sharpe.  Henry, made sure they were married "shot gun wedding".  After that things went down hill between us.  We were divorce in 1902.

I passed away 3 April 1942, Marshalltown, Iowa.

I was born 27 Sept 1859, Hanover, Edelsdof, Germany.  I came the United States with my father George Bremmer and mother Catherine Bremmer (King/Koenig) when I was 9 years old.

I met and married Martha Rhoda Green, on 23 Nov 1878, Rock Rapids, Iowa.  To this union were born 4 children:  James Henry, Carl Jerry, Earl LeRoy, Elizabeth Bremmer.

I became a U.S. citizen on 23 Oct 1891, Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Martha and I divorce Jan 1902, in Iowa. It was a very bad divorce between us.  In 1905, I married Elizabeth Hecker and we had one child "stillborn".

H.E. Bremmer passed away last Saturday at 2:30pm after a long siege of Dropsy.  The funeral was held at the Congregational Chruch and was attented by a large crowd.  His children were all present at the funeral.  Ocheyedan has now lost one of her boosters and best citizens. 

Death of Henry Bremmer

Henry Bremmer of Ocheyedan, a well known stock buyer, died last Saturday, after a lingering illness, of tumor of the liver, aged about 55 years.  Mr Bremmer was a widower.  He is survived by four children.  Mrs. Robert Richardson of Sibley and Mrs Geo Graves of Ocheyedan are his sisters.  The funeral was held Monday at Ocheyedan.  Mr and Mrs Robert Richardson and George Richardson of Sibley were present.

Dora Graves, nee Bremer, was born in Germany, November 25, 1860 and passed away at the Osceola hospital in Sibley on November 27, at the age of 82 years and 2 days.  She came to this country with her parents at the age of 6 years.  In 1879 she was married to John Graves, who preceeded her in death on November 27, 1918.  For many years she and her husband lived on their farm in Ocheyedan township, moving to Ocheyedan in 1898, where she made her home until death called her.  She was a faithful member of the Methodist church of Ocheyedan and was a member of the Royal Neighbors of Ocheyedan and Women's Relief Corp. She leaves to mourn her death the following nephews and nieces, Ed Richardson, Sibley, George Richardson, Santa Anna, California, Nina Knapp, Garden Grove, California, James H Bremer, Eldora; Earl L Bremer, Hampton; Carl J Bremer Los Angeles; Bessie Emens, San Francisco; Jerry Graves, Melvin; Anna Frey, Willow Lake, S.D; Augusta Haertner, Ocheyedan and Mary Dyorak of Sibley.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church by the Rev. Potter and burial was made beside her husband in local cemetery.

Dec 4, 1918 Sibley Gazette Tribune: Death of John Graves

John Graves was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, May 19, 1854 and departed his life at the hospital in Sibley, Iowa after an operation for stomach trouble.  November 27, 1918 aged 64 years, 6 months and 8 days. He came to the United States with his parents in 1868 and settled down in Clinton County, Iowa.  In 1874 he came to Osceola county and settled on a farm in Ocheyedan township.  Four years later he married Miss Dora Bremmer who survives him after journeying through fory years of wedded life, most of which has been spent in Ocheyedan township.

He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany, and was a member of the church.  About thirty two years ago, in revival held under the auspices of the Evangelical church he was converted and united with the Evangelical church, and maintained his relation with that church, until 6 years ago, when he became a member of the Methodist Espiscopal church in Ocheyedan, Iowa of which he had been a devoted member until his passing into the better country.

Mrs. Nina Richardson Knapp, funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday for Mrs. Nina Richardson Knapp in the First Baptist Church of Garden Grove with the Rev. Oran H Smith officiating.  Mrs. Knapp lived in Garden Grove for the past 44 years.  She is survived by her husband, J. Allen Knapp of their home address, 11132 Garden Grove Blvd., a daughter Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ynancy of Westchester, California; a brother George R. Richardson of Santa Ana, and two grandsons.  Interment will be in Loma Vista Cemetery, Fullerton, and Honold Bros. Mortuary of Garden Grove is in charge of arrangement.

Services Sunday for Mae Richardson:  Miss Mae Richardson, age 62 died at a local hospital Wednesday March 4, after an illness of several  months.  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist Church by the Rev. L.D. Havig-hurst.  The Eastern Star, of which she was an officer, gave the ritualistic service of the Order.  Interment was made in West Holman Cemetery.  Mae Richardson was born in Sibley, January 12, 1880 and grew to womanhood in this community.  She was graduated from the Sibley schools and later taught in rural schools of the county.  She was a graduated from Iowa State Teacher's college with the class of 1911 and afterwards taught in the public schools at Adel, Milford hawarden and Osceola. 

Surviving member of her family are her brother, Ed Richardson of Sibley and George Richardson of Santa Ana, California and one sister Mrs. Nina Knapp of Garden Grove, California.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs Robert Richardson, a brother Ran Richardson and a sister Edith Richardson.  She is also survived by two nephews, Dick and Robert Richardson and two nieces Delores Richardson and Dorothy Knapp of Garden Grove, California.

Relatives from away who came to attend the funeral were Mrs Nina Knapp of Garden Grove, California and Mr. and Mrs Earl L. Bremmer of Hampton.  Other from out of tow who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Will Kepka of Biglow, Mrs M.S. Gole and Mrs Polenske of Ocheyedan and Mr and Mrs. Harm Jensen of George.

Death of Miss Richardson:  Miss Edith Dorothy Richardson died at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Richardson last Thursday, of cancer, after a lingering illness of three years.  She was born in Sibley July 11, 1874, and lived her all her life.  Surviving her are her parents, two brothers and two sisters; Edward of Sibley, George of Santa Ana, California, Mae at home and Mrs J allan Knapp of Garden Grove, California.  She had been a member of the Methodist church for more than thirty years.

Edwin Richardson, Sibley Native Dies Saturday November 10- Services were held Wednesday November 14, edwin John Richardson, a Sibley native for 75 years, died in his home, Saturday, November 10, at 8:30 p.m.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 14, in the First Presbyterian church in Sibley, at 2p.m. Rev. G.J. Grobe officiated.  Richardson was born in Sibley in 1876. His father Robert Richardson was one of the pioneer businessman of Sibley.  After finishing his formal schooling in Sibley public schools, he entered the meat market business with his father.  After his father's death, he operated the business until the fire of 1943.  Since that time, Richardson worked in various meat markets in Sibley.  Richardson was first married to Frances Kreager in 1900.  The couple has one son, Robert, who now resides in Grundy Center.  In 1926, he married Minnie Benson.  They had one daughter, Delores, now Dolores Poss of Des Moines.

Survivors are his widow, Minnie Richardson, his son Robert, his daughter, Dolores Poss, one brother George Richardson of Santa Ana, California and one sister Nina Knapp of Garden Grove, California.

R. Richardson, Oldest Sibley Merchant, Dies:  Pioneer Opened meat Market Shortly After Town Was Platted

Robert Richardson, Sibley's oldest merchant and the oldest butcher in Iowa, died in his home her Tuesday evening, following several month's serious illness.  He was 84 years old.  Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Sibley M.E. church under the direction of the local I.O.O.F chapter, the Rev. H.O. Ward, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be made in the Sibley cemetery.  Mr. Richardson has been bedridden since April, when he returned from an Execelsior Springs, Mo., sanitorium, where he had gone for several weeks of treatments.  He suffered with rheumatism last fall and winter and had contracted uremic poisoning last spring.  His death was caused by a complication of the alliments.  

Oldest Iowa Butcher - Mr. Richardson had been in the meat business in LeMars two years before he came to Sibley, in 1872.  He was recognised by Iowa butcher groups as the oldest of their number.  The Richardson meat market here is still conducted in this pioneer's name.  He came here in the fall of 1872, only a few months after the town was platted.  At the time of his death, he was the only merchant in Sibley to have conducted a business here continuously more than 50 years.  He was actively connected with the business houses in that district burned in 1873 and were rebuilt on Ninth Street.  In those pioneer days, Mr. Richardson was on of the few butchers in northwest Iowa and drew customers not only from all of Osceola county, but also from Sioux, O'Brien and Lyon counties.  Odd Fellow for 58 years - Mr. Richardson had been a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge for 58 years at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Yeomen Lodge.  He was born in Belfast, Ireland, Feb 9, 1847.  He came to the United States in 1860 and lived for several years in Wisconsin.  In 1873 he was married to Miss Katherine Bremer, who survives him.  He is also survived by two sons, Edward of Sibley and George of Santa Ana, California, and two daughters, Miss Mae Richardson of Sibley and Mrs Allan Knapp of Garden Grove, California.  Edward Richardson is manager of the meat market. A brother Jack Richardson of Sibley also survives, as well as two brothers in Canada and two brothers and a sister in Belfast, Ireland.  

A daughter Edith, died about nine years ago and a son, Randolph died about 30 years ago.

Richardson Rites To be Held Today;  Funeral services for Mrs Katherine Richardson will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church with the Rev. L D Havighurst in charge.  Burial will be in the Sibley cemetery.  Mrs. Katherine Richardson passed away at her home early Monday morning, following a lingering illness which confined her to her bed since December, at which time she suffered a stroke.  Katherine Bremmer-Richardson was born in Hanover, Germany September 12, 1853.  She came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bremmer, and settled in Loganville, Wis. where she lived for four years.  In 1872, she moved to Sibley and resided there continually.  

On Sept 22, 1873, she was married to Robert Richardson who preceded her in death 10 years ago.  A son and daughter also preceded her in death.  Surviving are two sons, Edward of Sibley and George of Santa Ana, California, two daughters Mae of Sibley and Mrs Allan Knapp of Graden Grove, California, four grandchildren and a sister, Mrs Dora Graves of Ocheyedan.

Mrs. Richardson united with the Methodist church soon after coming to Sibley and was a regular attendant until her health began to fail.  She was a member of the W. R. C. and Rebekah Lodge.

George Bremmer Obituary - Osceola County Tribune. 

A pioneer of Osceola County dropped out of the ranks when George Bremmer died last Saturday morning, aged 77 years.  His diseased was a kidney ailment due to age.  Mr. Bremmer came to Osceola County and took up a homestead in 1872.  He was a native of Hanover, Germany.  He came to American about 40 years ago, settling in Sauk County, Wisconsin when he moved to this county.  Surviving him are two daughters and a son in middle age, namely: Mrs. Dora Graves of Ocheyedan and Mrs. Kate Richardson and Henry Bremmer of Sibley.

Mr. Bremmer was a member of the German Evangelical Church.  His funeral services were held in the M.E. Church Monday afternoon and he was laid to rest in the Sibley cemetary beside his wife, who preceded him to the grave about a dozen years.

Among those who attended the funeral were Earl Bremmer of Carrol, James Bremmer of Goodell, Carl Bremmer of Baker township and Miss Bessie Bremmer of Omaha, Grandchildren of the dead man.

Geo. Bremmer died Saturday morning June 8, 1907 at the ripe old age of over 77 years after an illness about six weeks, of kidney trouble. 

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the M.E. church, Rev. Herbert Clegg preaching the sermon.

Geo. Bremmer was born in Hanover Germany in 1830.  Before removing to this country he was married to Katherine King, who died twelve years ago. 

He united with the German Evangelical church in 1870.  In 1872 he removed to his homestead in Ocheyedan township, where he lived up to ten years ago, when he moved in to Sibley and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Robt Richardson. The deceased was one of Osceola's sturdy pioneers and was here through the grasshopper days.  He was highly respected by everybody.

He leaves two daughters and a son all of whom attended the funeral.  Mrs. John Graves of Ocheyedan; Mrs. Robt Richardson and Henry Bremmer of this city. 

19 March 1896, Sibley, Iowa

Mrs. Bremmer, wife of John Bremmer, who lives on the south line of  Ocheyedan township, died, last Monday.She is the mother of Mrs. R Richardson and Henry Bremmer, of this place and was a greatly respected old lady.  The funeral occurs to-day, the remains being interred in the Sibley cemetery.

Quentin Martha was born in Sibley, Iowa on 25 March 1906, he was the third son of Carl Jerry Bremmer and Lucy Methesmith Sharpe.  I do not know where the name Quentin came from, but Martha was grandmother Bremmer’s name and she insisted that this child be named after her.  The middle name soon became M.

Quentin, was a sweet, good natured little boy.  He was very quiet, well mannered, shy and deeply religious.

One day mother noticed a large black and blue mark on his shoulder where his violin rested.  He told her that he had these marks over all his body.  Taken to the doctors immediately, he was diagnosed as having a serious blood disease and the outlook was not good.  Mother and dad made countless trips with him to Mayo Brothers Clinic and Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.  The doctors there, from the very first visit, gave the folks absolutely no hope for this sick little boy, but mother and dad could not give up.

For one year, our whole life centered on Quentin and attempting to make his days and nights easier.  He gradually grew worse and just two days before sister Glee’s fifteenth birthday he died at home with parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters with him.

My parents grief is had to describe.  They really never recovered from the loss of this twelve year old son.

This death certificate dated 6 September 1918, states cause of death:

Purpura Hemorrhagica, complicating Leukemia.  He is buried in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
